On July 1st 2023, Media InSite Ltd celebrated 12 outstanding years of business. The company started as a pioneer of media monitoring in the region and has over time cemented itself as the global leader in real-time Caribbean media intelligence.

CEO and founder of Media InSite Allison Demas reflects on the journey to today’s success and what the future holds in store for the company.

The 12th anniversary marks a significant milestone. How has the company’s vision and goals evolved since its inception in 2011, and how do you attribute the company’s success thus far?

Allison: My vision for Media InSite from inception was to provide a comprehensive cutting-edge Caribbean media intelligence service to the world, and that has not changed. We started off in July 2011 monitoring broadcast spots and newspaper ads in Trinidad only. Now in July 2023, using a combination of automation, licensed third-party technology, our own home-grown systems, artificial intelligence and human intelligence, we monitor, measure and report on the effectiveness of paid, earned and owned media initiatives across 19 Caribbean countries. Even our team doubled in size from 20-plus persons to over 40 full-time staff and contractors to accommodate our growing list of clients and services.

A company’s achievements rely heavily on the effectiveness of the team. How has Media InSite’s approach to teamwork and employee engagement over the years contributed to its growth?

Allison: As a business leader, I have always believed in an open-door policy, the importance of listening to your team, widening participation in decision-making and the accountability of managers and team leaders to their respective teams and the business as a whole. Furthermore, I deliberately set out to create a family-like atmosphere at Media InSite, a relaxed and harmonious working environment but at the same time setting very clear goals and targets for everyone to achieve. In October 2020 the business took a major step in going virtual and the challenge has been to keep the 22 full-time staff and 23 independent contractors engaged. To be honest, this is proving to be quite challenging especially for “new” employees who have come on board after October 2020. Nevertheless, since the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions a year ago, we have quarterly in-person staff meetings and from time to time we have social events. Whilst engagement has been a challenge, remote work has resulted in increased productivity.

Media InSite recently hosted a seminar on the impact of AI on the marketing and communications industry. In order to stay ahead of the curve, what role do you see technology and innovation playing in the future growth and sustainability of the company?

Allison: Media InSite is a technology and data-driven company. Consequently, it is critical for us to keep abreast of major technology developments, continuously offer innovative media intelligence solutions and use disruptive technology to our benefit and ultimately the benefit of our clients. We will continue to leverage advancements in technology in our strategy for growth to expand our markets, services and clients.

Looking ahead to the next 12 years, what do you think is on the horizon for Media InSite?

Allison: Growth, growth and more growth!
